Heifer International, the global aid group helping farmers in developing countries, honored Susan Sarandon for her exceptional support for 17 years at the 2nd Annual Beyond Hunger gala last week.
Sarandon took the stage Sept 19 to a standing ovation and pride in her eyes as she fondly recalled a trip to Cambodia in 2011. During the trip she and her daughter took part in a gift giving ceremony where villagers passed on the gift of livestock to another family, a family that would raise it, live off of it and eventually gift its offspring to another family.
Heifer International works with smallholder farmers in more than 40 countries to provide livestock and training, enabling self-reliance and ensuring economic security to those in need. Heifer International has helped more than 18.5 million families, or more than 94.5 million people, improve their own lives as well as their communities with a focus on environmental sustainability.
Attendees also included musical Performers The Band Perry (Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry), Lucy Schwartz and Johnny Hanson, and Jon McLaughlin and event co-hosts Geena Davis, Eva Amurri Martino & Kyle Martino; dinner committee members Diane Lane, Serinda Swan; and Bruno Tonioli.
