Mimi with filmmaker Yaniv Rokah at the Aero Theater.
A private screening of “Queen Mimi” directed by Yaniv Rokah filled the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica Wednesday Aug 27.
Mimi, a staple on Montana Avenue, walked the red carpet which happened to fall on her 89th birthday. Rokah who is a barista at Caffe Luxxe, became interested in Mimi as a subject when he’d see her on Montana Ave at 5 in the morning on his way to work.
The entire community came together to make the screening possible including Jim Rosenfield of the Aero Theatre, Mark Wain and Gary Chau co-owners of Caffe Luxxe who provided cups of their freshly roasted coffee, and Huckleberry which provided an array of their freshly baked pastries. Over 400 of Mimi’s friends came out to support the film made in her honor. The movie received an overwhelming response with attendees feeling prouder than ever of their community and beloved Montana Avenue.
