Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was arrested on December 30 in Pennsylvania.
However, the legal document used in support of obtaining a warrant and arresting the man remains under seal until he returns to Idaho, where he will be charged with four counts of first-degree murder.
The document, when released, “will really tell us a lot,” investigator and criminal defense attorney Joey Jackson tells CNN.
“He will tell us more about the probable cause of the crime, why he was arrested and why he should be detained and investigated,” he explains to CNN.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed whether the suspect knew the victims.
They confirmed that Brian Christopher Kohberger lives in the area and has a doctorate in the criminal justice program at Washington State University.
He was studying at the Pullman campus in Idaho, a 15-minute drive from Moscow, where four students were killed.
Investigators have not yet released details about the suspect’s motive for stabbing the students.
The 28-year-old’s studies, criminal law and criminology, were described as “very interesting” by a former FBI profiler interviewed by CNN.
“We have another case where criminals are more or less prepared to commit crimes,” Mary Ellen O’Toole told CNN.
It is also not clear why it took more than six weeks after the bodies were found to make an arrest.
Authorities would not confirm to the media when Brian Christopher Kohberger first became of interest to police or why.
The suspect had been visiting his parents in Pennsylvania for the holidays since December 17.
A white Hyundai Elantra wanted by authorities in connection with the murders was found at Brian Christopher Kohberger’s parents’ home, CNN reported.
An FBI surveillance team from Philadelphia has been following the suspect for four days in the area where he was arrested, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.
