Construction has halted on Jeff Bezos’ Beverly Hills mansion

Construction has halted on Jeff Bezos’ Beverly Hills mansion

The Post has learned that construction has stalled on Jeff Bezos’ massive expansion in Beverly Hills as his application to expand the property over 15,000 square feet awaits approval.

An initial application for a Hillside R-1 permit was submitted in 2021, but was denied on a technicality of non-completion.

It was later approved until Bezos, 59, submitted a new application to add “courtyard fencing with lighting,” which was submitted in January of this year, according to project records.

But the Amazon founder’s request was again rejected on the grounds of incompleteness.

“He’s now filing a new application for a different scale on this build, and he can’t build to the scale associated with the application,” City Council Chief Planner Judy Gutierrez told The Post.

“The Planning Commission hearing on the Hillside R-1 permit submitted has not been scheduled for January 2023,” Gutierrez added, meaning that renovations will remain on hold indefinitely until a hearing is scheduled.

Bezos’ initial application for 2021, which won city planning approval last April, requests a new house for a pool, powder room and retaining walls — an addition of about 1,000 square feet to the 28,000-square-foot mansion.

The home’s former owner, film and music mogul David Geffen, 80, obtained permits to allow the maximum floor space allowed to exceed 15,000 square feet, but no more than that.

“The maximum allowable floor area will be 69,139 square feet,” according to a report by the Beverly Hills Planning Commission.

Photos obtained by The Post show aerial footage of the home at a standstill, with construction equipment on the grounds but no workers.

The Post has reached out to Bezos’ representatives for comment.

Bezos shelled out $165 million for the 10-acre estate back in 2020.

But the move didn’t seem to affect his latest deal, which showed the founder, CEO, former president and CEO of Amazon’s net worth plummeting. 57 billion dollars last year.

This was due to a 38% drop in Amazon’s share price as of March 10th.

Known as the legendary Jack Warner Estate after the former president of Warner Bros. Entertainment. The $165 million deal set a Los Angeles record until Marc Andreessen beat Bezos’ record, paying $177 million for the sprawling, 7-acre Malibu complex in 2021.

Previously, the title had gone to media director Lachlan Murdoch, who Pay 1 dollar50 million of the Bel-Air property known as “Chartwell,” which served as Clampett’s residence on the popular 1960s TV show “The Beverly Hillbillies.”

Today the complex includes a three-storey main house, guest house, gym, pergola and a security guard’s house.

The new pool house will measure approximately 697 square feet. The powder room will be underground.
