2 bodies found in collapsed building in Marseille

Firefighters announced that “two lifeless bodies” were found in the rubble of a building in Marseille, southern France, overnight Sunday into Monday.

“Given the particular difficulties of the intervention, it will take time to extract (the bodies from the site)”, the firefighters noted in a brief press release, confirming the information of the newspaper La Provence and the BFMTV channel.

“The judicial authority may then proceed to identify these victims”, the text continues.

“A status update will be made in the early morning,” the report concluded.

The discovery comes less than 24 hours after a massive explosion ripped through a four-storey building in Marseille.

Marseille’s public prosecutor indicated earlier on Sunday that rescue services were still searching for eight people believed to be missing in the rubble.

“This night is full of pain and pain,” said Marseille mayor Benoît Bayan in a press release.
