Super typhoon
A super typhoon hit Guam in the western Pacific region of the United States. With winds of 225 kmph, Cyclone Mawar caused extensive damage and power outages. Currently, the category 4 cyclone is moving westward at 13 kmph.
Type 5
After making landfall, the cyclone is already intensifying. Its winds are again blowing at a speed of 240 kmph. According to forecasters, the storm is likely to become a Category 5 storm again in the next few days. Indeed, moving west-northwestward, the northern parts of the Philippines and Taiwan are threatened. Mawar is expected to cross the coast again early next week.
A very powerful 20 years
Mawar is the most powerful cyclone to hit the region since Pongsona in 2002. Three elements were unleashed: strong winds, heavy rain and storm surge. Authorities have forced many residents living in coastal areas to evacuate.
