99% of the world’s population will see the sun at the same time

Less than 50 million people in the dark

As of 7:15 a.m. (EDT) Saturday, about 7.9 billion people will see the sun at the same time, according to timeanddate.com. Only residents of Australia, New Zealand and some Pacific islands including Hawaii and Fiji will be in complete darkness. Antarctica is apparently in the dark, but has no permanent residents.

Traces of the Sun

It will be dusk on the West Coast of America and East Asia. The sun is barely visible on the horizon. Most of the world’s population lives north of the equator. In summer, the sun is high in this part of the earth.

Return of the pendulum

And according to timeanddate.com, at least 98% of people will be able to see the sun at the same time at some point during the day, lasting from May 18 to July 17, but peaking on July 8. On the other hand, on December 6, 86% of people will be in the dark at the same time.
