A terrifying video has emerged of a group of nurses jumping into action to protect newborns in a neonatal unit in Taipei during the devastating earthquake that rocked Taiwan.
The three nurses were seen scrambling to gather about 10 beds and fasten them together in the capital, where the building shook during Wednesday's 7.2-magnitude earthquake in the eastern part of the country.
“Taiwanese nurses protect children during the earthquake. This is one of the most beautiful videos I have seen today on the Internet. Hats off to these brave ladies. One user wrote on X.
another wrote: “Several videos show the impact of the earthquake that struck Taiwan on Wednesday. I found this hospital particularly poignant, as it shows the nurses rushing to keep all the children safe.
“Life is fragile, and they are doing everything they can to protect the most fragile people of all. Bless them,” the user added.
The maternity unit nurses were concerned that a nearby window might break and injure the babies. BBC reported.
The dramatic video of the heroic nurses emerged as the number of people injured in the quake rose to more than 1,000 on Thursday – despite the death toll standing at nine.
The quake, the strongest in 25 years to hit the autonomous island, struck on Wednesday morning as people were preparing to go to work and school, and was centered in the sparsely populated rural eastern province of Hualien.
Officials said about 646 people remained trapped, most of them in hotels in Taroko National Park, where the road was blocked.
Interior Minister Lin Yuchang said rescuers expected to be able to reach them Thursday evening.
