Rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating for a while, but they may come to a head as we get closer to a potential June launch (assuming the original Swatch follow-up isn't delayed until next year). . A new batch of rumors have emerged covering everything from screen size to backward compatibility, raising expectations about everything Nintendo has in stores.
Let's start with the Joy-Cons, which were supposed to offer new controller connections according to previous reports. More details via IGN Courtesy of third-party manufacturer Mobabad She appeared to collaborate on a report last week about the new Joy-Cons from the Spanish publication vandal.
This report said that the Joy-Cons are supposed to be larger than current versions and have a different way to connect to the Switch. Instead of the current sliding rail, they are supposed to use electromagnetic suction.
Additionally, the SL and SR buttons tend to be metal, with new buttons arriving on the controllers as well, though it's unclear what they will add to the mix.
As for existing controllers, Mobapad says that the current Joy-Cons and Pro Controller will still work with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, the cartridge slot will be able to work with existing games, though it's unclear if games designed for Switch 2 will work or not. Work with old Nintendo handhelds.
Here's what else we learned.
Bigger key
The leaks claim that the Switch 2 will be larger than the current generation, with the screen getting an upgrade to an 8-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 pixels. The current Switch has a 7-inch display and only supports 1080p resolution when docked.
New docking station
The dock is also changing slightly, according to these new reports, with the next-gen dock capable of allowing 4K resolution.
Interestingly, Mobapad says the new dock will have a damping bracket at the back to allow for a “greater range of adjustable angles.” It's unclear what purpose this feature will serve. Current Switch docks are small, toasted-looking pieces that just hold the switch. However, there are third-party docs with smaller profiles that don't have the walls covering the Switch.
