Summer 2023

According to a study published in the journal Science NatureIn 2023, the Northern Hemisphere had its hottest summer in 2000 years. Scientists at the German University of Mainz used modeling to estimate trends in the years before 1900. According to the study authors, sparse records from the 19th century tend to overestimate temperatures.

A severe trend

In 2023, the warming trend continued. Since industrialization and the widespread use of fossil fuels, the Earth has been warming. Here, the graph shows the progress of global warming. Note that in the summer of 2023, an El NiƱo event amplified the temperature anomaly in the Northern Hemisphere.

Quebec appears

In the summer of 2023 the province of La Belle observed this trend from afar. In fact, Quebec did not participate in this historic anomaly, as the season was slightly above normal in terms of temperature. Considering the average of the last 30 years, compared to 2018, 2020 and 2021, last year’s June, July and August presented the most alarming anomaly.
