If you want a pair of glasses that enable hands-free video recording and an AI voice assistant, there aren’t a lot of options, and the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are clearly the leaders. But Solos, whose smart glasses currently feature audio only, says it will sell a camera-equipped version later this year — with a new GPT-4o AI model from OpenAI to let the camera recognize objects and answer questions about what it sees.
The Solos AirGo Vision also includes the same interchangeable frame system as other Solos glasses so you can swap out the camera – if you’re going somewhere where a camera wouldn’t be socially acceptable, or if you just prefer A different look or some sunglasses instead. Additional tires cost between $89 and $129.
The company says the Vision will also have LED notification lights to alert you of incoming calls or emails, and claims it can also be integrated with Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude AI models. Like Meta’s Ray-Bans, they’ll answer questions via voice — they don’t have a display other than the LEDs.
The AirGo Vision doesn’t have a specific price or release date yet, but you can expect it to cost upwards of $249.99 — because that’s what Soloists will charge for a pair. without Camera in July. Ray-Ban sunglasses currently start at $299.
Disclosure: Vox Media, parent company of The Verge, has a technology and content deal with OpenAI.
