Eiger Nordwand Returns, Plus Six New Cars – GTPlanet

The fan-favorite PlayStation 3 circuit is returning to the Gran Turismo series, as Polyphony Digital has revealed that Eiger Nordward will be coming to GT7 In update 1.49 this month.

The update was revealed at an unusual Gran Turismo World Series live event in Montreal today, between the Manufacturers’ Cup races. A short trailer, similar to the ones we usually see, showed off the contents and it’s fair to say it came as a bit of a surprise – not least because it’s the first road course added since Grand Valley in February 2023.

GTPlanet reports that the Eiger Stadium could be redesigned in preparation for its return to the series in August 2023, with the area appearing in a presentation for Sony’s Creators Conference. The PD crew was shown capturing the landscape from a helicopter, and the slides included a number of 3D models of buildings such as the Kleine Scheidegg railway station.

The original Eiger Nordward circle first appeared in Gran Turismo HDas the only track in the game besides the reverse version of it. Although the track is very short, at 1.5 miles, it was challenging, and featured some beautiful scenery.

After his appearance in Gran Turismo 5 Game IntroductionThe site has been expanded to Gran Turismo 5 And 6 With three additional off-road tracks. However, it has joined several other locations in the GT’s wonderful recycling bin (or rather ashtray), being omitted from the selection. Gran Turismo Sport.

For the 1.49 update, only the Eiger Nordwand is mentioned, so it looks like we’ll just be getting the original hardtop circuit and not the later rally additions. It also looks to be pretty close to the original design too, unlike some of the other classics that have been modified, although we’re not entirely sure where the pit lane is this time around.

This very welcome addition is also accompanied by one of the largest car collections in a game update in the GT7 era, with six new vehicles joining the roster. It’s also a list full of PS3-era nostalgia, featuring two cars that first appeared in the series and another that GT fans may recognize from GTHD Trailers but not the game itself.

The first two cars are the Scuderia version of the Ferrari F430 and the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. They will be joined by another supercar, the all-new 2016 Ruf RGT 4.2 – a rare addition to the Ruf brand in the era of Porsche’s free license.

A car we never expected to see fills a long-standing gap in the Gran Turismo lineup, as a 1997 E36-generation BMW M3 will be part of the update. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an E36, but it is the first appearance of an M3 from this generation.

Finally, there are two race cars, with a 1998 Subaru Impreza WRC likely to join the Group B lineup, and a race version of the Genesis Vision Gran Turismo expected to be a top-tier car.

However, that’s not all in the update, as there’s an expansion of the Gran Turismo Sophy offering to include two new circuits: the Nurburgring 24h and the Autodrome Lago Maggiore Full Course.

New tires, new wheels and, interestingly, “new physics” are also being touted, though we’ll probably have to wait a while to find out exactly what that means – other than a potential reset of the Circuit Experience and License leaderboards and possible changes to time targets.

The update itself is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, July 25, so there’s plenty of time to save money for a new fleet of vehicles.
