New Hellblade 2 sales data gives a clearer picture of its performance on Xbox Game Pass and charts

Hellblade II was heralded as one of the biggest exclusives of 2024 when it released in May, but overall sales figures have been hard to come by since launch. Now, thanks to the latest sales data from Circana, we have a clearer idea of how it’s performing.

According to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella, Hellblade II ranked 37th in full-dollar sales for May 2024, making it the 21st best-selling Xbox Series console. Hellblade II has yet to be released.

It’s worth noting that Hellblade II was released on Xbox Game Pass at launch, and that’s reflected in the engagement data, where it ranked 12th on Xbox in monthly active users. That puts it behind Fallout 76 on the platform, but ahead of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Apex Legends, and Forza Horizon 5.

Piscatella shared the sales information on X/Twitter, as Hellblade II’s performance meant it didn’t appear on any major charts. Xbox and Ninja Theory have shared little about Hellblade II’s sales since its initial release, leaving fans to speculate about Steam concurrency and other data. Gamesindustry.biz publisher Chris Dring noted that it failed to crack the top 100 on the European sales charts in what he described as “Brutal month” for game sales.

The sequel to Ninja Theory’s popular action-adventure game, Hellblade II, was announced shortly after the studio was acquired by Xbox in 2018 and finally released earlier this year. The developers have described it as “a pivotal moment in the evolution of real-time visuals.” Digital Foundry“Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II delivers a captivating adventure filled with cinematic spectacle and story surprises that maintains an ever-increasing sense of forward progress and doesn’t waste a single second of its short runtime,” we wrote in our own review.

Elsewhere, Ghost of Tsushima returned to the top spot thanks to its Steam release, while Call of Duty dominated the sales charts for both Xbox and PlayStation. However, it was a tough month overall for console spending with all three platforms posting double-digit declines.

With Hellblade II now available, Xbox is looking ahead to the rest of 2024, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed among the first releases on its list. You can see the rest of the biggest games of 2024 here.
