the vice president The creator took to X to remind fans that his Emmy-winning HBO series (2012-2019) was purely fictional, despite the notable similarities to President Joe Biden announcing his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Let’s remind ourselves that #VP has already written a fictional version of this scenario.. Kamala *inherits* the actual presidency. Then she runs. Electoral college is tied. House vote is tied. Which means the Senate has to choose the nominee who will break the tie. And it ends up with… J.D. Vance as President of the United States (note: this is drama…)” one fan wrote.

Since Biden’s endorsement of Harris, many fans have taken to social media to post memes pointing out similarities to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Vice President Selina Meyer, in the hit political satire.
After several fans shared a scene from the show where Selena announces to her staff that the president has decided not to run for a second term and that she will run in his place, one person praised Iannucci for “continuing to predict our political reality” in mail.

Iannucci got one last laugh when he posted an old photo of Dreyfus and Biden walking slowly through the White House in a clip from the 2014 White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
After Biden’s endorsement, Harris secured enough pledged delegates in record time to win the Democratic nomination in the first round.
