Prince to feature in Minnesota Democratic National Convention songs

Democratic delegates and DJ Cassidy turned the Democratic National Convention into a music festival on Tuesday as each state lent its support to a playlist of songs chosen to represent the region.

The vote was largely symbolic, as Democrats chose their nominee in a virtual vote earlier this month. Minnesota’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz was no surprise — and neither was Prince’s choice to represent the state.

“1999” and “Kiss” by Prince and the Revolution played from speakers during the Minnesota floor. Sen. Tina Smith enthusiastically announced the support of Minnesota’s delegates, flanked by Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Klobuchar nodded to Prince during her brief remarks.

“I’m Amy Klobuchar, Senator from the great state of Minnesota, where almost everyone votes and purple reigns!”

A surprise performance by Georgia rapper Lil Jon included a musical reference to Walz that became a meme after Harris chose him to be her running mate. Lil Jon showed his support for his state by performing a portion of the song “Get Low,” singing, “Vice President Harris… Governor Walz,” to the tune of “To the window, to the wall!”

Other songs Chappelle Rowan has sung in Missouri include “Good Luck, My Love,” Jack Harlow’s “First Class” in Kentucky, The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” in Nevada, and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” in New Jersey.
