The Lake Mary Little League team defeated Boerne, Texas, 10-7 on Saturday to win the U.S. Open Championship. 2024 World Junior Championship SeriesFlorida advances to the LLWS championship game on Sunday to face Chinese Taipei.

Florida and Texas The two teams met earlier in the tournament when Julian Hurst had three clean hits and 10 strikeouts. But after a slugging start by ace JJ Feliciano, Lake Mary came back and turned the game into an instant classic. Florida scored nine runs in the final two innings, with Tyraj Alexander stealing the lead ball to give Lake Mary its first lead in the fifth.

Texas regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, but Feliciano, Garrett Ruhuzen and Landon Bono immediately loaded the bases, and Jacob Bibaud and Liam Morrissey tied the game again in the sixth. Luis Calo hit a double that led to two runs to put Florida ahead for good.

Caden Joffe hit a home run, then third baseman Hunter Alexander hit a throw to first base. But Luis Calo forced Aidan Munoz to ground out for a double that ended the game. Lake Mary won 10-7 and will play Chinese Taipei on Sunday afternoon in the LLWS.

Minor league baseball games do not last nine innings like Major League Baseball and college baseball. Minor league baseball games only last six innings. If the score is tied after six innings, the game continues to extra innings until there is a winner.

Caleb Chryst took over as the pitcher for the start of the sixth inning. He allowed JJ Feliciano to walk on his first four pitches, then Garrett Rohusen hit a double that bounced off the Texas center fielder’s glove. Landon Bono allowed a walk on the bases with no errors.

DJ Messis scored at first base on what looked like a double play. Jacob Bibaud hit a single to center field for a run. Liam Morrissey hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to tie the score, and then Luis Calo hit a double to right center to put Lake Mary back in the lead.

Liam Morrissey came on as a backup, then stole third base on a pass from Tyraj Alexander, forcing him to throw the ball out. He scored, and Alexander was thrown out while trying to advance to third base. The score was 10-7 in Florida going into the sixth inning.

Gage Stubing opened the fifth inning with a single after he passed the third baseman. Landon Bono got a strikeout, but Dylan Burke hit a single after he passed the shortstop JJ Feliciano. That led to a pitcher change to Luis Calo.

A ball out of the infield led to Julian Hurst, who walked to load the bases with two outs. Gray Collins tied the game with an RBI single, then Kalu’s wild pitch brought in Burke with the leadoff hit. Kalu forced Cooper Hastings to field, but the ball got away from the catcher, allowing the run to continue and score another run.

The next batter came out, but Texas led 7-5 going into the sixth. Florida had another chance.

Cole Newson took over as the pitcher. After Hunter Alexander struck out, Tyraj Alexander hit a huge home run with Newson’s back turned. The run gave Lake Mary a 5-4 lead.

Chase Anderson scored a run to end the inning, but Florida scored four and now led heading into the fifth.

Julian Hurst moved to first base while Dr. Mugford took over as pitcher. Cole Newson moved from first base to third base, and Dylan Burke moved from third base to center field for Mugford.

Teraj Alexander hit an RBI single to deep right center field, then advanced to second base on a throw to third base. Chris Chekodrov then hit a rebound to Mugford, who couldn’t get the game under control and allowed Jacob Bibaud to score the tying run. Mugford lay on the field holding his leg after the game as trainers came to check on him. He was helped off the field while Bourne made another infield change.

There is still one out in the top of the fifth inning, and the score is tied 4-4.

DJ Messis opened the fifth inning with a double off the right-center field wall. The Texas manager came out and asked pitcher Julian Hurst if his shoulder was hurting, and after a brief discussion, the champion said he could still play. Jacob Bibaud sent the next ball straight to left field for a single, then moved to second base for a passed ball.

Liam Morrissey hit a grounder to center field before Luis Kalo came out. After Hurst touched his shoulder again, Bourne made a pitching change with one out in the fifth. The Texans still led 4-2, and Hurst ended his day in the outfield with seven strikeouts.

JJ Feliciano moved to shortstop with Landon Bono taking over on the mound. Bono put Texas ahead quickly with a groundout to Feliciano at shortstop, a flyout to Jacob Bibaud in left and a flyout to Luis Calo in right. He threw just eight batters. Florida trailed 4-1 after 4 innings.

Chris Chekodrov hit a single into the infield to lead off the fourth. Texas tried to hold on, but the decision was upheld, giving Lake Mary its first hit of the game. Chekodrov moved to second on a throwing error. Julian Hurst struck out Hunter Alexander, then allowed a single to center field to first-inning batter Chase Anderson.

Then JJ Feliciano made up for his tough pitching day, hitting a single to center field. Garrett Ruhusen and Landon Bono hit the ball to end the inning, though Kaden Goffey had to complete the strike to Bono. Hurst struck out seven batters in four innings, and Bourne led 4-1 heading into the fourth.

At the start of the third inning, Landon Bono moved from catcher to third, Garrett Rohusen moved from second to catcher, and Hunter Alexander moved from third to second. The move likely means Bono will replace JJ Feliciano at the end of the inning.

Feliciano started the third inning with a strikeout, but then Julian Hurst sent a single to left field. Gray Collins followed with a walk. After a pop-up, Bourne’s center fielder sent in a strikeout. Dr. Mugford (Yes, that’s his real name) hit a double that led to two outs just a few steps away from a diving Jacob Bibaud. Feliciano struck out his sixth batter in the final inning, but he struck out 84, which meant his day was definitely over. Texas led 4-0 after three innings.

Texas star Julian Hurst dominated the Florida lineup in their first meeting, and he’s done it again. Hurst knocked out Liam Morrissey, Louis Callow and Tyraj Alexander to rack up four straight knockouts.

Lake Mary did not score a run until the end of the third inning. Texas led 2-0.

Lake Mary’s JJ Feliciano’s rough start continued in the second inning. After getting the first shutout, he allowed one hit and two hits before hitting a wild pitch that allowed Jett Matthews to score the game’s first point.

Then Caleb Chryst hit a ground ball before Feliciano finally managed to score a strikeout to end the inning. He had reached 57 pitches. Bourne led 2-0 after the second inning.

Little League International limits the number of balls players are allowed to throw in a given time period. For 11-12 year olds in the Little League World Series, players are limited to 85 balls per game.
