A motorist crashed into a vehicle carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky through Kyiv, his spokesman said Wednesday night, but he was not seriously injured.

“In Kiev, the car of the President of Ukraine and the vehicles of (his) escort were hit by a car,” Sergey Nikiforov said in a statement on Facebook at 1:22 p.m. local time (Wednesday 2222 GMT) on Thursday.

“Medics accompanying the President administered first aid to the driver of the automobile and transferred him to an ambulance,” he continued.

“The president was examined by a doctor and no serious injuries were found. The police will investigate all the circumstances of the accident,” he said without further details.

In his late-night televised address released shortly after the crash, Mr Zelensky, who indicated he had returned from the Kharkiv region, promised that “almost the entire region has been liberated” after a lightning counterattack aimed at driving out the Russians. troops.
