AMD Radeon RX 7900 reference cards have a hidden temperature sensor

players Known for the in-depth temperature and power analysis of modern graphics cards, they were quick to note that the Radeon RX 7900 series has a hidden thermistor.

The sensor is hidden behind the fan, which allows the card to effectively measure the temperature of the ambient temperature inside the case. This feature is very useful for graphics cards that have 0 RPM / 0 dB technology applied. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 series also supports it. This technology turns off the fans when the card is idle or during light use.

Without these sensors, some card components other than GPUs, such as VRMs, would have been subject to overheating. Steve Burke provides an example of EVGA’s GeForce GTX 10 series, whose cards suffered from a lack of such sensors, effectively causing some components to overheat and die in the process. The company was later forced to redesign its cards by adding multiple sensors across its cards.

Gamers Nexus expects AMD to display data from this sensor to users, possibly using official software, but the company has not provided any official comments on the matter. It’s not clear if board partners will add similar sensors to their designs, in fact, no brand, except ASUS, has debuted their RX 7900 series yet.
