Apple will play catch-up with artificial intelligence at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which begins… With a keynote on June 10 It continues until June 14. The company usually focuses on its planned fall software updates and announces some new devices, and this year should be no different. But going into this year, there's a lot of uncertainty about what the company has to say about its approach to generative AI.
Apple is said to be spending millions daily to train its own models, and rumor has it it's also courting news outlets to train content partnerships. But other recent reports have suggested it may strike a deal with Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic (or Baidu in China) to provide cloud-based AI features, while keeping its own generative features strictly on-device. Apple will likely open its ecosystem to all AI developers for deep integration into its devices, according to A Recently Bloomberg a report.
Of course, the company has talked about on-device machine learning for years, but now that generative AI is such a big thing, it looks like Apple is ready to boost its capabilities in this area as well. (See the M3 MacBook Air, also known as “the world’s best consumer laptop for AI.”)
