A floor sealer was served instead of milk during lunch for twelve children at an Alaska day camp on Tuesday.
The June School District Board of Education said in a statement on its website that the chain of events led to the bug that made 12 children and two adults sick.
14 people are said to have ingested the 90ml seal 341 floor sealer.
People who took the product experienced headaches, nausea and burning in the mouth and throat. However their lives were not in danger.
According to a preliminary investigation by the school board, in the spring of 2021 a plate sealed to the JSD food warehouse was mistakenly delivered with four trays of stacked milk. This warehouse is usually reserved for food only.
Sealants were not used until this week when there was no milk in the food service that handled serving lunch to those in the youth camp.
The food service, NMS, sent an employee to pick up some for the warehouse.
On the morning of June 14, three floor sealer boxes were recovered from the warehouse, according to the school administration.
One was given to the lunch manager at Sid Eti Shanx Glacier Valley Elementary School, where he was given sealant instead of milk. The other two boxes were sent to other schools and never opened.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
