Credit card skimmers were recently discovered inside 11 New York Walmart stores in central and northern New York, syracuse.com reported.

Most of the skimmers, which are designed to steal credit card information, were reportedly placed on July 2 and found on July 5.

Police said they are investigating whether the same three people are behind these and seven other cases of card skimming, the report says.

The report mentions that Police are seeking pubic assistance to identify three wanted people for questioning in connection with the scrapers.

A spokesperson referred syracuse.com to local police agencies to “maintain the integrity of the investigation(s)”.

Police agencies said syracuse.com These are the aisles in every store where the skimmer is found:

    • Fulton/Granby: No. 7
    • East Syracuse: No. 6
    • Camillus: No. 5
    • Auburn: No. 2
    • Oswego: No. 1
    • Cortland/Cortlandville: No. 2
    • Central square: No. 1
    • Irwin: No. 5
    • Norwich: Unknown

The spokesperson said customers concerned they may be affected should contact the card provider or Walmart’s customer service team at 800-925-6278.

Additionally, they urge customers to check their accounts and report any discrepancies to their bank. State police also urged the public to use credit cards rather than debit cards, since credit is “easier to dispute.”
