Fever star Kaitlyn Clark breaks WNBA rookie record for 3-pointers in game with Connecticut Sun

Caitlin Clark set another WNBA record Wednesday night in Indianapolis.

The Fever star hit a three-pointer early in Indiana’s game against the Connecticut Sun at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday, officially breaking a tie with Rhyne Howard and giving Clark the league rookie record for three-pointers. Clark has now made 86 shots from behind the arc this season, surpassing the 85 Howard made during her rookie campaign in 2022.

Just three minutes into the first quarter, Clarke fired a long-range three-pointer over Suns goalkeeper Dijonay Carrington to seal the win.

Clark hit four 3-pointers in her team’s 84-79 win over the Atlanta Dream on Monday night. She tied the record with a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter of that win at Georgia, which she had already made over Howard.

Clark entered Wednesday averaging 18 points and 8.2 assists per game, the league’s highest average this season. She’s also averaging 2.8 three-pointers per game, which is fourth-best in the WNBA. The former Iowa star also became the fastest player in league history to reach 500 points and 200 assists earlier this month, something no rookie has ever done.

Clark shot nearly 38 percent from behind the arc during her career with the Hawkeyes, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s basketball while leading the team to back-to-back national championship games. She also averaged 5.2 points from three-point shooting, a career-high.

The Fever team entered its match against the Sun team with a record of 14-16, despite winning five of its last seven games to keep its chances of qualifying for the playoffs alive. Its win over the Dream team was also the first time the team has won 14 games in a season since 2016. The Fever team is in seventh place in the league standings.
