A police officer who was fired after fatally shooting a teenager eating a burger in his car is facing felony charges, according to WOAI-TV.
The San Antonio, Texas Police Department released body camera footage of the incident on October 2.
At approximately 10:45 p.m. that evening, a police officer identified as James Brenand was called to the McDonald’s restaurant due to a “disturbance.”
While talking to witnesses about this “troublesome night”, he would have noticed a vehicle fleeing during a roadside check. Mr. Brennan believed the car was stolen.
4 more policemen came as security forces. The police officer opened one of the vehicle doors and ordered the man out. According to body camera footage, he was 17-year-old Eric Cantu, who was eating a burger.
With the driver’s side door open, the teenager put the car in reverse and struck James Brennan.
It was at this time that Mr. Eric Cantu’s car. Brennan allegedly shot.
Officers reportedly found Cantu’s car about a block away, but neither he nor his 17-year-old passenger were inside.
The teenager was originally charged with hit and run with a vehicle and aggravated assault. However, Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzalez announced that he would drop the charges against Cantu.
According to WOAI-TV, Mr. Brennan was arrested on Tuesday, October 11. He was charged with aggravated assault and released on bail on October 12.
