Outcast: A New Beginning is a sequel to one of the first open-world games ever created, simply called Outcast, but it also takes cues from games that came out in that two-decade gap by letting players explore an entire alien world “without… “No restrictions.”
Forsaken: A New Beginning director previously revealed that the sequel was actually influenced by the radical freedom and non-linear progression of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. (“Go anywhere, anytime, do anything” sentiment.) Now, the game's producer has shed more light on the world and how it opens up to the player.
THQ Nordic producer Andreas Schmidker told Gamesradar's Jasmine Gould-Wilson that the game's alien planet “is about 64 square kilometers in size and features seven large Talen villages, different biomes with diverse flora, and plenty of animals and open-world activities.” These seven villages act as waypoints, pulling you in different directions, and you can help these natives in any order you like.
“After a tutorial sequence, the player is completely free to explore every inch of this world (except for two bases) without any compartmentalization or restrictions,” Schmidker continues. So there are no boundaries or invisible walls keeping you away if you are below a certain level.
Schmiedecker has previously looked at the game's “bright and colorful” settings and how it sets it apart from the harsh landscapes you might find in similar games.
Outcast: A New Beginning is in progress steam And consoles for now, just in case you're interested in the absolute freedom of the sequel.
