Israeli response: Explosions heard in Isfahan, central Iran

On Thursday evening, Israel responded to Iranian attacks on its border by firing missiles at a base in central Iran's Isfahan.

This information was mentioned by the ABC channel, citing a high-ranking member of the US government.

The Iranian regime's semi-official Fars news agency reported that explosions were also heard near Isfahan airport. The Jerusalem Post.

The strike appears to be directly targeting a specific site, but it was not known by the end of the evening. Isfahan is home to a military air base and a nuclear research laboratory, among other possible targets, but no information was immediately available on the target or potential victims.

Regardless, the Israeli attack does not appear to be on the scale of that carried out by Iran, which fired hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel over the weekend. Most of the missiles were intercepted by Israel and its allies, including the United States and the United Kingdom.

Tensions between Iran and Israel reached levels not seen in decades following a strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, in which senior Iranian officials were killed on April 1. Iran blamed Israel for the attack and retaliated with a missile attack.

The regime later deemed it retaliatory, and warned Israel against any temptation to attack. The US, for its part, has warned that it will not help Israel strike any targets in Iran.

“Let's wait and see what happens in the next 72 hours. It can escalate quickly. [..] It could spiral out of control and escalate into an all-out war between Israel and Iran,” a former US general warned on ABC.

The announcement immediately pushed up the price of a barrel of oil in the market.

All these developments come as Israel continues its military operation in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip against Hamas, which was responsible for a major terrorist attack against the Jewish state last October.
