Jen Tran, a contestant from Joey Graziadei's season of “The Bachelorette,” has been cast as the leading lady on Season 21 of “The Bachelorette.”
Franchise host Jessie Palmer, along with former “Bachelorette” star Charity Lawson, revealed the news during the Season 28 finale of “The Bachelor” on Monday night. Tran will make “The Bachelor” franchise history as the first Asian-American Bachelorette.
Palmer directed Tran during the After the Final Rose ceremony for Graziadei's season finale.
“I'm looking for someone with a really big personality,” Tran said. “I'm all about having fun, I'm all about having the cheeky banter.”
On becoming the first Asian American Bachelorette, Tran said, “It's honestly incredible and I feel so grateful and honored to be the first Asian Bachelorette in this franchise. Growing up, I always wanted to see Asian representation on television. I feel like it was really sparse.” “Any time Asians were in the media, it was to fill a supporting character role, to fulfill some kind of stereotype, and I always felt trapped by that because I was like, 'I don't see myself on screen. I don't see myself as a main character.'
In an official press release, ABC described Tran as “a kind and compassionate woman who has dedicated her life to helping others and is currently studying to become a physician's assistant.” The bilingual Vietnamese beauty currently resides in Miami and is ready to find love with a dependable and thoughtful man like her. When she's not studying, Tran loves reading, canoeing, and traveling whenever she gets the chance.
“The Bachelorette” is a Next Entertainment and Warner Bros. production. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Bennett Grabner, Claire Vreeland, Jason Ehrlich, Tim Warner and Peter Jost serve as executive producers.
The premiere date for Season 21 of The Bachelorette has not been set, but the series will air this summer on ABC and Hulu.
