There’s no more work for John Dutton to do: Kevin Costner will not be returning to “Yellowstone.”

Costner (69 years old) confirmed that he will not return to the hugely successful series, as Patriarch Dutton, ending more than a year of speculation and negotiations. Speaking directly to fans in an informal video posted on his page Instagram Costner said on his social media pages late Thursday evening that he will not participate in the second half of Season 5 of “Yellowstone” – the final episodes of the series – which are currently being filmed in Montana.

“I just wanted to let you know I’m not coming back,” Costner said in the video, which was released on the same day Paramount Network announced the premiere of the final episodes of “Yellowstone.”

Instead of “Yellowstone,” Costner will focus on other films and “Horizon,” the four-part Western film series that he produced, co-wrote, directed and starred in.

“I just want to reach out and tell you that after this long year and a half of working at Horizon and doing all the things it takes,” Costner said. “And thinking about ‘Yellowstone’, that beloved series that I love. That I know you love. I just realized that I won’t be able to continue Season 5B or into the future.”

Costner took the central role in Taylor Sheridan’s drama, which led to global success and a resurgence of professional power. “It’s something that really changed me,” he said. “I loved it. And I know you did.”
