A survivor of the tragedy has described the daughter of tech mogul Mike Lynch, who died with her father on the luxury yacht Bayzian, as a “diamond in a sea of stars”.
Hannah Lynch, 18, was one of 22 people on board her father’s luxury boat, the Baysian, when it capsized during stormy weather on Monday.
Her body was found with her father’s by rescue teams following the disaster that struck the island of Sicily last week.
Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio announced at a news conference on Saturday that an investigation into involuntary manslaughter had been opened.
Sasha Murray, chief steward on the Baysian, who is believed to have been rescued from the yacht, said: “Those who knew her will know that Hannah was a diamond in a sea of stars. She was bright, beautiful and always sparkling.
“What most people probably didn’t see was the strong, deep, loving relationship she had with her parents, whom she adored more than anything else.”
“I have no doubt that the Irish-Latin fire burning in her soul kept that strong determination alive,” she added.
Morgan Stanley Chairman Jonathan Plumer and his wife Judith Plumer, and Clifford Chance attorney Christopher Morvillo and his wife Nida Morvillo also died.
A diver involved in the search for missing passengers at the Bayesian shipwreck has spoken of his team’s strong emotional reaction when Hannah Lynch’s body was recovered during the complex operation.
“Finding bodies underwater is our job, you get used to it and keep your emotions in check, but locating the girl was different – it was an emotional moment because she was so young,” said Fabio Paoletti, a member of the Italian firefighters’ diving team. Sunday Times.
“We entered a large room, but I couldn’t tell how big it was because I couldn’t see the walls. The room led to a staircase that led to a narrow corridor leading to the cabins,” he added.
“When we entered Bays, we had to check for any obstacles that could impede our exit, which was crucial since we only had a short time to get out.
“This means looking for a door or a cover that can be opened or a curtain that can block your way. You have to clear the way.”

Tribute to a ‘brave’ and ‘selfless’ friend who died in Bayezian
Friends of Ricaldo “Rick” Thomas have paid tribute to their “brave” and “selfless” friend who was found in the waters near the luxury yacht “Baizian”.
“Rick could have jumped and survived, I have no doubt about that,” said his friend Gareth Williams. “But he wouldn’t have left the people on the ship and swam away.” Sunday Times.
“I read that the first mate was very young, and Rick would say, ‘Get off the boat man, I’m here, I’ll take care of it.’ That’s just what it was.”
“He had an infectious smile and a sexy booming voice. He was the kind of guy you could sit in a room with – no TV, no music, just be yourself. You didn’t have to say a word. You just enjoyed his company,” he added.

In honor of the “genius” storyteller Mike Lynch
Susannah Gordon, a close friend of the Lynch family from Suffolk, shared a series of honest stories about Mike Lynch and who he was beyond being one of Britain’s biggest tech moguls.
Ms. Gordon spoke of his “amazing ability” to explain difficult and complex concepts in a way that people could easily understand.
His wife, Angela Bakaris, and his daughters would tell Mrs. Gordon about his ability to “conjure beautiful stories out of thin air.”
The next evening, while the dinner dishes were being cleaned, Mr. Lynch told a story about a hero, who was the same age as Mrs. Gordon’s son, who went on adventures in search of treasure. The story was described as “magical.”
She added that she was not surprised to learn that Hannah was beginning to show “serious literary promise.”

The prosecutor says it is likely that crimes were committed.
Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said he believed “crimes were likely committed” in connection with the sinking of the yacht.
He told reporters that the sinking could have been the responsibility of the captain, the crew, the individuals responsible for supervision, the ship’s construction company or others.
He added: “We will determine the responsibility of each element, and this will be done through investigation, so we cannot do this prematurely.
“To me, it is possible that crimes were committed – it may be a case of manslaughter – but we can only prove that if you give us time to investigate.
“The timing of the media is completely different from the timing of the attorney general. We need a minimum of time to reach a sound scientific conclusion.”

Summary: Post-mortem examinations have not yet been performed.
The prosecutor in the case said no information had been obtained so far from examining the seven people who died.
Asked whether post-mortem examinations had been carried out, Raffaele Cammarano told a news conference in Italy: “There are a whole number of preliminary stages that must be passed before the bodies are autopsied.”
The yacht had suffered a sudden landing, and Italian officials said they would look into how it affected one vessel and not other nearby vessels, according to a translation of the conference.
The investigation is currently an Italian affair with local participation, but lead prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said: “I cannot assure you with certainty that the investigation will be exclusively Italian.”
“There will be developments, I am sure, in this regard,” he added.
