Random: Console modder creates a fully functional “Wii XL”.

There’s a huge scene online that has been invested in modifying and recreating previous Nintendo systems in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways, and the latest video doing the rounds is the “Wii XL” project. Yes, leave the 3DS XL aside, because there’s a new, much larger system on the block.

Moder and YouTuber John Bringus (Bringos Studios) believes the Wii “could be improved” simply by making it bigger. The end result is a system that appears to be “12 times larger in size” than the original model and is fully functional – meaning it can still play both Wii and GameCube titles. It also comes with some improvements like HDMI support.

Here’s a little info from the creator, along with a look:

It’s a roughly 2:3-to-1 scale model of the Wii and 12 times bigger in size. With a normal Wii inside, you can do everything a Wii can with this thing, including reading game discs, connecting GameCube controllers and memory cards, and using USB devices. Each of the Wii’s buttons can be accessed from the front panel.Power and reset are their own buttons that go directly to the physical buttons on the Wii and by flipping the SD card door you gain access to the SD card as well as the eject button.

Admittedly, accessing the sync button was just an afterthought, and the best way to access it is to just pop it out of the DVD slot. And to keep things simple, there’s no sensor bar port, a battery-powered wireless sensor bar can be used instead. It’s inside. Wii HDMI Adapter can scale Wii up to 1080p for use on modern displays, sorry no CRT compatibility here.”
