Richard Simmons’ staff shares a post on social media that Simmons had drafted and was planning to publish.
In the post Simmons penned for Sunday, July 14, Simmons donned a NASA spacesuit and stood in front of a colorful, galactic-themed backdrop. the message He was scheduled to participate in a reading of “Let Me Fly You to the Moon So We Can Gaze Among the Stars. With Love, Richard,” according to a post from his staff on his Facebook page.
Simmons died on Saturday, July 13, at the age of 76.

“Hello everyone. Richard put a lot of effort into writing his posts for you. He had so many ideas and was working on them… going back to each one and making changes until it was just the way he wanted it before publishing,” the post from Simons’ staff read.
“You know, on the weekends he would just post a picture with a caption. He would always pick his pictures and write his captions for the upcoming weekend by Friday.”
Simmons’ fitness videos became hugely popular in the 1980s, fitting in with the emerging trend of aerobics and jazz workouts. Videos like the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” series became popular videos of the era.

“When I decided to retire, it was because my body told me I needed to retire,” Simmons told the newspaper. “I spent time reflecting on my life. All the books I’ve written, the videos. I never said, ‘Look at what I’ve done.’ All I said was, ‘Look at how many people I’ve helped.’”
