Last week, we learned that the folks at Activision and their various Call of Duty studios had made some positive changes to how you played older Xbox 360 games online, so naturally, we went back and took a look to see how things were. Going. As it turns out, online matchmaking seems to have improved (we played a bit from 2009 modern war 2 to test it), and the changes seem to have brought players back to classic Call of Duty.
As reported by the Call of Duty-focused outlet CharlieIntel, player numbers for various old CoD games are now in the thousands. Fan favorite Black Ops 2 seems to have benefited a lot from server updates, but other titles are looking healthy, too, at the moment.
We have to mention that the numbers above may not be 100% accurate – some of these CoD games have broken in-game player counters – but online matchmaking on these classic Xbox 360 titles appears to be surprisingly full right now, and matches are found to be fairly spotty. Big fast as we tested it.
Some Xbox fans on Reddit have also been enjoying the nostalgia – particularly for a revisit of 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 before it became a potential spiritual successor later this year.
In any case, it’s nice to see these CoD classics in much better shape than they’ve been in recent years, and we’d love to see them all drop into Xbox Game Pass if and when Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal goes through. In the meantime, you can get it at a discount as part of the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale 2023!
In fact, very few of them are dominate UK and US “Best Pay” charts at the moment, with Black Ops 1 & 2 and Modern Warfare 2 for Xbox 360 both inside the top five. crazy!
