At The Atrium Salon, Thomas Almaraz carries on an age-old tradition of cutting men’s hair in a friendly neighborhood environment. Now celebrating its second anniversary, The Atrium Salon is a full-service hair salon that caters to both men and women, though Almaraz specializes in men’s hair styling.
Besides the time and care he puts into each haircut, Almaraz uses quality tools like $500 scissors and a straight razor to clean up around the edges. It’s the kind of attention he believes people deserve in the Palisades, where Almaraz first came in 1987 with his parents at age 18.
Tucked in the first floor of The Atrium Building on Via De La Paz, some of Almaraz’s high-profile clients like the privacy the setting affords. In 1997, Almaraz was rated best haircut by LA Magazine, and in 2009 he received special recognition for his volunteer work with the American Cancer Society. He also likes to boast that Atrium Salon has not one single negative review on Yelp and the most positive reviews out of any hair salon in the Palisades.
“I like to tell people, it might not have the fanciest paint on the wall, but we’re clean, we’re prompt and we’re good,” Almaraz said. “I like working in the Palisades because most successful people are educated, and educated people are nice people. It’s just a great neighborhood to be a part of.”
