Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were among those who celebrated the artwork of Carole Bayer Sager at the William Turner Gallery Sept 18 in Santa Monica.
Sager is best known as one of the most prolific songwriters in popular culture over the past 40 years with hits such as the Grammy-awarded That’s What Friends Are For. Dozens of artists including Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston and Ray Charles have all recorded her songs.
Sager’s new work of paintings explores notions of obsession and perception, utilizing foods that are embedded in our pop cultural DNA. By drastically changing their size and scale, the artist invites viewers to take an abstract look – up close or at a distance – bringing their own associations to grilled cheese sandwiches, chocolate candies, and confectionary explosions.
The show will be up through Nov. 8. Programming through the end of the year at William Turner Gallery continues with a solo exhibition for Andy Moses, opening Saturday, November 15.
