(Deer Park) A minivan crashed into a Long Island nail salon Friday, killing four people and injuring nine, a Suffolk County fire official said.
The vehicle stopped at the Hawaiian Nail & Spa in Deer Park around 4:40 p.m.
All those killed and injured were inside the restroom at the time, Lt. Kevin Heisenbuttel said.
It was not immediately clear whether the crash was accidental or intentional, Lt. Heisenbuttel said. Investigators remained on site until the evening.
Photos of the scene showed a gap in the storefront located in a shopping center.
Eric Perez said Newsday He was loading groceries into his car when he heard a car approaching at high speed, opposite the scene of the accident, when he heard a “crash-like noise”.
“It’s a sound I’ve never heard before,” he said.
As he and his wife left the parking lot, he said, he saw emergency crews evacuating victims from the scene.
“We saw the ambulance and the rescuers were removing a body,” he testified. I saw two women who worked there come out on a stretcher. ยป
Suffolk County police did not immediately respond to emailed requests for information.
