College football fans craving the full first-week slate enjoy the luxury of an early start with 16 games Thursday night before the first full Saturday of games. Although only six of Thursday’s competitions have Divisional Football League teams pitted against each other, there will be three ranked teams among the working teams.
The first is the revamped Backyard Brawl, in which 17th player Pete and West Virginia are playing for the first time since 2011 in what could be a highly competitive competition. Simultaneously kicking off No. 12 is Oklahoma State, which will avenge its 2016 home loss to Central Michigan. #22 Wake Forest eliminates the seeded teams playing Thursday, as Deacons host VMI with Mitch Greaves in the center while QB star Sam Hartman awaits medical clearance.
Outside the top 25, Penn State and Purdue battle the Big Ten, Minnesota will face former coach Jerry Keel, who now leads New Mexico State. CBS Sports will be here every step of the way to keep you informed of the latest scores, highlights and action stories throughout the evening. All times are oriental
