Indianapolis – Bill Belichick takes special teams seriously.

If Charlie Thomas didn’t know this before the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl, he sure did.

The Georgia Tech quarterback was among a slew of NFL draft hopefuls who worked with Belichick and other Patriots to the Shrine Bowl. He and several of his Western teammates spoke glowingly of the New England staff while meeting with reporters Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

At one point, Thomas told the story of Belichick stopping practice after a failed drill in a kick.

here How Andrew Callahan The Boston Herald quoted Thomas’ story:

During a practice at the East-West Shrine Bowl, an annual showcase of draft prospects where the Patriots coach one team for an entire week, Bill Belichick pulled it all off. He encountered a punishment unit that failed to live up to his standards. Force both sides to run it again.

Everything else on today’s schedule can wait. Thomas was surprised.

“He’s not playing (around),” Thomas said.

Thomas added, “It was very organized and disciplined. It’s direct. They’ll tell you what you’re doing wrong, what you need to do to get better, and they’ll be completely honest with you.”

Thomas is considered a possible third-day pick and could also go undrafted. So whether the Patriots targeted him in late April is anyone’s guess.

But if Thomas lands in New England, he better show up ready to put the details on special teams.
