The scene was recorded on a surveillance camera there. In the pictures, we see the mother slipping the baby out of her arms at the sight of the beast. The baby fell 16 feet, according to the New York Post.
“A young woman throws a little girl into the enclosure of a brown bear in front of an audience. The motive behind the gesture is unknown, ”said a zoo spokesman.
Within minutes of the little girl’s fall, we see a bear cub named Zuzu approaching.
Fortunately, the zoo’s guards were able to chase the animal away before the worst incident.
The girl suffered concussions and cuts in the fall.
For his part, the mother has been detained and faces criminal prosecution for attempted murder. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
“The audience and staff tried to stop the mother, but they failed. We can hardly imagine what it would have been like if the bear had preyed on the little girl,” the spokesman added.
