Bridget Jones 4: Renee Zellweger joins Leo Woodall in Mad About The Boy

As Bridget Jones herself said, “Everyone knows the diaries are full of crap,” but the people who dictate her inner monologues also make great movies.

It's actually great that there's a fourth about to go into production.

Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson are set to reprise their roles in the new film Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

It is scheduled to be released in the US on Valentine's Day 2025, but no date has been announced for the UK.

The film takes its title from Bridget Jones's most recent novel, which was released in 2013.

Readers rejoin Bridget as she is in her fifties, a mother of two and a widow after the death of Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth in the previous films).

The production studio has not commented on how close the new film is to the story of the paper film of the same name, but it has been revealed that writer Helen Fielding wrote the script.

It has also been confirmed that two-time Academy Award winner Zellweger will reprise her role as the lovable and down-on-her-luck Bridget Jones, and Grant, who did not appear in the third film, will return as dashing rapper Daniel Cleaver.

Thompson, who first appeared in her character as Bridget's desperate obstetrician in Bridget Jones's Baby, is also set to return.

New faces in the cast include Chiwetel Ejiofor ( 12 Years a Slave ) and Leo Woodall ( 1 Day ), who is rumored to play Bridget's younger love interest as she grapples with dating again.

British writer Helen Fielding previously said that she decided to exclude Mark Darcy from the series because she did not want Bridget to become a “snobby married woman”, a fate that Jones's previous musings considered very unfortunate.

When Mad about the Boy was published, Fielding told BBC News that she wrote it in secret to be free of expectations and pressure and “so I could write it like a first novel”.
