A representative for singer Beyoncé says the singer will not attend the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

“Beyoncé was never supposed to be there,” a representative for the Grammy-winning star said. Hollywood Reporter“The performance report is incorrect.”

Rumors have been swirling online all week about the pop star’s attendance and performance at this year’s Democratic National Convention, celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris’ historic nomination for president.

On Wednesday, news broke that Pink would headline the show ahead of Harris’ speech. On Thursday, Pink — who performed “What About Us” with her daughter Willow — appeared to be moving up the lineup, adding fuel to the fire about a surprise guest coming later in the night.

Beyoncé’s presence was felt at the United Center arena in Chicago, where her song “Freedom” ended up playing on and off stage for Harris as she formally accepted the party’s nomination later Thursday. The superstar singer had given Harris quick permission to use the 2016 award. lemonade “Freedom” has since become an anthem for her campaign, and was also featured in a new Harris-Walz ad that helped launch the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

This year’s Democratic National Convention was hosted by Tony Goldwyn, Ana Navarro, Mindy Kaling, and Kerry Washington, each of whom hosted a night of the event. The four-day convention featured performances by Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Patti LaBelle, and other top musicians; a surprise appearance by Oprah Winfrey, who gave a speech urging registered independents like herself to vote; a daytime panel discussion moderated by Julia Louis-Dreyfus; and more.

On night three, Legend and Shayla E paid tribute to Minnesota, the home state of vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, with a performance of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” The late icon was born in Minneapolis.

Wonder also made a surprise appearance in Chicago on Wednesday, performing his hit song “Higher Ground.” “This is the moment to remember: when you tell your children where you’ve been and what you’ve done,” Wonder told the crowd. “As we stand between the pain of history and the promise of tomorrow, we must choose courage over complacency. It’s time to stand up and vote.”

The Republican National Convention in July attracted notable figures such as Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Amber Rose.

August 22, 8:30 PM Updated to include “Freedom” playing Harris outside the DNC stage.
