The 2024 Democratic National Convention concludes Thursday evening, headlined by remarks from Vice President Kamala Harris, who will formally accept the party’s nomination for president.
Once again, the event will be hosted by a celebrity, a role played earlier in the conference by political commentator Ana Navarro and actress Mindy Kaling.
Actress and registered Democrat Kerry Washington will host the ceremony on Thursday, with performances from Pink and the Chicks along with speeches from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, among others.
Washington is widely known for her leading role in the television drama Scandal, for which she received two Emmy Award nominations.
In addition to Scandal, Washington also had a major role in the miniseries Little Fires Everywhere, and had roles in dozens of films, including Fantastic Four and Django Unchained.
Washington is scheduled to deliver intermittent remarks throughout the evening, with a busy schedule of speeches by top Democrats and musical performances scheduled.
Washington is a registered Democrat with a history of political endorsements, having previously spoken at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in support of former President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, and later speaking at the mostly virtual 2020 Democratic National Convention.
