Actress Reese Witherspoon said she is “really excited” for the new prequel series Legally Blonde, which premieres next year.

Amazon Prime Video confirmed that the Elle-themed series was in development earlier this week.

It will follow Witherspoon’s character Elle Woods before the events of Legally Blonde.

The star will produce the show, but it has not yet been announced who will play teenager Elle Woods.

In a video clip shared on Instagram, Witherspoon can be seen getting dressed and applying pink lipstick before waving a “Top Secret” text message before pitching Amazon Prime Video to advertisers.

“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law School, she was just a regular high school girl in the 1990s,” she wrote.

“And you’ll all get to see it next year on Prime Video. I’m so excited!”

Its success led to a sequel being released two years later, as well as a musical that opened in 2007.

The new series will be produced by Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine, which is now part of Candle Media and was previously responsible for shows including Daisy Jones and The Six.
