An American man was killed and his partner injured when an ice cave collapsed on tourists in southeastern Iceland on Sunday, Icelandic police said Monday evening.
Police said no one was missing. On Sunday, he announced that there was a 25-member team, but in the end there were only 23.
The figure was established after verification with the travel agency and research completed on Monday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while his partner was airlifted to hospital in “stable condition” and is now out of danger, police said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Rescue services began the search on Sunday, which was interrupted overnight, before resuming on Monday. Surland police said that during these operations, no one was trapped under the ice.
More than 200 rescuers and responders participated in the “difficult conditions” operations.
The glacier where the accident happened is near the Jökulsárlón glacial lake, one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions.
