The last time Arcade Fire Bowery Hall played was 2004 when funeral issued. Even back then it was too big for a room, but these days, it’s the Montreal band’s playing fields, so when they went to their social sites on Friday afternoon and announced that, surprise, They were playing with Bowery that night As a Ukraine relief benefit, one wondered, what kind of offer would that be?
With giant eyes – like the one on the cover of the sixth album that was just announced we Arcade Fire loomed large in the crowd, bringing some arena scenes to the 575-person room. There was a light show, in this case, that came straight from Régine Chassagne, who had LED lights and gloves with lasers. Win, Régine, and the rest of the band were basically on top of each other on stage, but they fueled the intimacy. Their songs really did all the heavy lifting, with their gigantic choirs and stand-up moments singing all night into the entire room.
Bowery’s song list was almost identical to the surprise show they played in New Orleans on Mondayopening with a new song “Age of Anxiety I” before releasing on some of the most popular and well-known songs: “Ready to Start,” “The Suburbs,” “Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)” and “Sprawl II (Mountains Behind the Mountains),” And more.
Their debut started with a new single “The Lightning I, II” followed by the single “Rebellion (Lies)” and the extended single “Wake Up” that took the band off the stage and hit the audience. From there they led the crowd, in second-line fashion, down the street, then across Delancey Street and onto the Bowery tube station, which they passed and went up the street again just outside the Bowery Ballroom.
Pictures from the whole show before q squared In this post, video and song list are below.
Before the show started, they had an old school pianist on the side along with a bass player. As people walked in, they were given a T-shirt that read “We”, and on the shopping table was a different T-shirt as well as 7 “Special singles from Lightning I, II”.
The bracelets for the show were immediately available, one per person and pay as you can, after Arcade Fire announced the offer on Friday afternoon. The proceeds went to the Ukrainian Relief Fund. They also let in a few people waiting outside at the ready.
