French media reported that the blades of the famous Moulin Rouge mill in Paris collapsed on Thursday morning.

The landmark's red windmill, depicted in the film of the same name, was left without its most distinctive feature after its feathers fell to the ground.

The collapse occurred between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. (0400-0500 UTC/GMT), according to French BMF TV.

A journalist from the French channel TF1 shared a video of the blades lying on the ground on X, previously Twitter.

The cause of the collapse is unknown

Firefighters said that the cause of the collapse was not yet known, and they said that no one was injured in the accident, and that there was no risk of further damage.

A person connected to the Moulin Rouge told Agence France-Presse: “Fortunately, this happened after the lockdown.”

The source said: “The club’s technical teams inspect the mill mechanism every week and have not noticed any problems.”

“It's the first time an incident like this has occurred since” the club opened its doors on October 6, 1889, the person added.

The last major damage to the building was a fire that broke out during renovations in 1915, forcing the institution to close for nine years.
