(WASHINGTON) Former Republican President Donald Trump compared his Democratic successor Joe Biden’s administration’s alleged subversion of justice to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo, newspapers reported Sunday.
The Republican nominee for the November election made the comments Saturday during a meeting with his party leaders at his Mar-a-Lago property in (southeast) Florida, according to an audio recording provided to US media by a campaign donor.
He has been arraigned in New York since April 15, targeted in four separate criminal proceedings.
In front of an audience of Republican executives and donors, he on Saturday accused Democrats of “running the administration like the Gestapo” and, according to comments cited by the media, once again vilified the lawyers prosecuting the cases against him.
Joe Biden’s campaign responded in a statement on Sunday, asserting that the Republican nominee’s frustrations “remain that Trump’s campaign only revolves around him, his anger, his revenge and his lies.”
