Good Samaritans tried to end a shooting in Hyattsville, Maryland on Saturday when they rushed over the attacker, CNN reported.
Police responded to a shooting on Mount Pisca Lane in Silver Spring. At the scene, officers found a bloodied man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The suspect, Marcus Conway, was detained by several witnesses.
Witnesses said Conway lay on top of the victim until he relaxed. Police say Conway then pulled away from the victim and shot him in the head.
Witnesses tell CNN that a click was heard when the suspect pulled the trigger, but no projectile ejected. A witness then took the opportunity to tackle Conway and grab the gun.
Other bystanders came to the brave Samaritan’s aid, removing the gun from Conway and helping him immobilize him until officers arrived on the scene.
The 24-year-old man responsible for the shooting has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting.
Montgomery County police say Conway has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault with a weapon, use of a firearm with intent to commit a crime and unlawful possession of a firearm.
