Cubans traveling to the Dominican Republic have been confined to their hotel rooms as Hurricane Fiona hit the country on Monday.

“It’s very quiet inside compared to outside. It was hectic. It’s much quieter in there than it was 30 minutes ago. It’s neutral there, but not pretty to look at, not pretty to look at,” says Euan Leonard in an interview with LCN.
The vacationer took photos of the hotel complex where he was staying, in which you can see uprooted trees and debris scattered on the ground everywhere.
Around 9pm on Sunday, hotel guests had to return to their rooms.
“Around 9:30pm, they came to bring food for breakfast, dinner and supper tonight, so we are locked in the room until dinner and until further notice”, the person explains.
A couple who went to the country “on a whim” to surprise a couple of friends wait for communication from the hotel to leave their room.
Quebecers are now wondering when they can return home.
“We certainly can’t leave to-morrow, for the roads must surely be covered with trees, so we await the return of the mail through the door or by telephone in the room,” said Mr. Leonard says.
