A 53-year-old Missouri woman was arrested Friday on charges she tried to defraud Elvis Presley’s family of millions of dollars.

Lisa Janine Findlay has been charged with mail fraud and identity theft. She was behind the conspiracy that led to Graceland being placed under foreclosure in May, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

“As alleged in the complaint, the defendant planned to fraudulently sell Graceland, falsely claiming that Elvis Presley’s daughter had pledged to sell this historic landmark as collateral for a loan that she failed to repay prior to her death,” said Nicole M. Argentieri, Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Chief of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “As part of this brazen scheme, we allege the defendant prepared numerous false documents and sought to extort a settlement from the Presley family. She now faces federal charges. The Criminal Division and its partners are committed to holding the fraudsters accountable.”
