Packers offensive lineman Tucker Kraft stands out in joint practice with Ravens

Green Bay Packers linebacker Tucker Kraft was productive in receiving passes during an impressive performance with the No. 1 offense during Thursday’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens.

according to Mike Spofford of Packers.comKraft — who is back to 100 percent after recovering from chest surgery during the offseason — caught at least five passes during 11-on-11 periods against the Ravens’ defense.

“If there’s one player that stands out, it’s Tucker Kraft, the sophomore tight end,” Spofford said. “I got him five times today against the Ravens defense. There were some blocks, some deep passes down the middle. No. 85 was a big presence on the field for Jordan Love today.”

Kraft caught one pass on a roll-up pass and went a long way. On one play in the red zone, Kraft caught a blocker and followed the defensemen for a touchdown. On several plays, he caught a pass from Love on a downfield route, including a trick pass.

The third-round pick last year caught the eye during practice on Thursday, impressing the man who plays center.

“Tucker looks great,” said Low. “Since he came back on the pitch, we’ve definitely felt his presence. I think he’s starting to get fit again. I think he’s got a bit of freshness now after being out for a short while, but he looks great out there. He’s very visible on the pitch and it’s great to have him back.”

Kraft appears to be picking up where he left off to finish his promising rookie season. Over the final nine games of 2023, Kraft has caught 29 passes for 350 yards and two scores. He added five catches and a score in the postseason. Overall, Kraft finished the season with the third-most passing yards (31) and second-most receiving yards (355) among rookie tight ends in Packers history.

The only hurdle Kraft may face in 2024 is the quality of the weapons around him. Luke Musgrave will get opportunities and targets at tight end, the Packers believe they have four experienced starters at wide receiver, and Josh Jacobs will likely be a workhorse at linebacker.

There are only a limited number of snaps and targets available. But Thursday’s practice proved that Kraft can still make a difference for Love and the Packers’ passing game in 2024. Like Love, the second-year tight end looks ready for Week 1.
