Raiders to put Darren Waller, Hunter Renfrew on IR

Henderson, Nevada. – The Las Vegas Raiders put together a pair of Pro Bowl pass wipers – tight end Darren Waller and reception slot Hunter Renfro — on the wounded reserve, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Waller and Renfrow will miss at least four games, starting with Sunday’s home game against the Colts, and will not be eligible to return until the Raiders (2-6) Rams play on December 8.

Waller has been struggling with a left hamstring injury since his fifth week loss to the Chiefs and has already missed his last three games in Las Vegas, while Renfrew has sustained rib and hamstring injuries. Both players are listed as limited participants in Wednesday’s training.

Waller (three years, $51 million) and Renfrow (two years, $32 million) have both signed offseason extensions, but neither have been able to stay on the field this year. They were supposed to collaborate with the All-Pro receiver Davant AdamsPro Bowl running backwards Josh Jacobs And the Pro Bowl quarterback Derek Carr To raise the level of attacking raiders under new coach Josh McDaniels.

Instead, Las Vegas has lost three games leading 17-0, and the fives have been played together in only three games so far. Waller, Renfrow, Adams, and Jacobs played a total of only 43 shots together.

No one is more frustrated with the injury than him, Waller told ESPN on Wednesday.

“It’s not like I’m doing anything to take myself off the field willingly,” said Waller, who has tested his left hamstring in pre-game drills the past two weeks. “I’m doing everything I can. It might not happen on the schedule I would like it to happen.”

Waller also dealt with a right hamstring issue that forced him to miss a big time during training camp. He missed eight of 14 regular season games in Las Vegas after also suffering back and knee injuries in a Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys last year.

Waller’s numbers dwindled compared to his previous production; He’s only shot 16 for 175 yards and one touchdown this season. He had a franchise record – 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020, one year after having 90 catches for 1,145 yards and three TDs in 2019.

Renfrew suffered a concussion in the final play of the Raiders’ stunning overtime loss in Week 2 to the Cardinals and missed the next two games. After a year pulling in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns, Renfrow has only 21 receptions for 192 yards and no points this season.
